GayDays is Back!

When GayDays first announced the pause for 2026, I’ll be honest, it felt heavy. For a lot of us, that early June weekend in Orlando is muscle memory. Red shirts in the parks. Pool energy at the host hotel. Late nights that turn into breakfast plans.

Now the update is official.

GayDays Orlando is unpaused. It’s back. Same traditional weekend. Just a new home.

And honestly, this might be exactly what the event needed.

The Big Update: New Host Hotel for 2026

GayDays Orlando 2026 will now be hosted at:

Holiday Inn Resort Orlando SW – Celebration Area
5711 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway
Orlando, Florida

That location puts it squarely in the Disney corridor, just in a slightly different pocket than past years.

So what does that actually mean for you?

It means the core structure returns:

  • Host hotel energy

  • Pool events

  • Community gathering space

  • Night events anchored in one central property

  • Same early June weekend tradition

What changes is the venue, not the heartbeat.

Let’s Talk About the “Pause”

When the pause was first announced, the reasons were practical, not emotional. Host hotel negotiations, sponsorship shifts, operational realities. Big events live or die by contracts, not just vibes.

From what we now see, the host property change was clearly the domino. Once that agreement shifted, the team had to reset. That kind of move isn’t small. It impacts room blocks, event space, vendors, insurance, security, everything.

But here’s the key part.

They didn’t cancel the tradition.

They recalibrated it.

And that tells me the intention was always to come back stronger rather than quietly fade away.

Is Red Shirt Day Still Happening?

Yes. And it always was.

Red Shirt Day has never been owned by a ballroom contract. It started as a grassroots idea in the 90s. Wear red at the parks so we can find each other. That tradition lives in the community.

Even during the pause announcement, Red Shirt Day was not cancelled because it is not controlled by the host hotel. It’s organic.

So for 2026, expect to see red shirts in the parks just like always.

The difference is that now there’s an official home base again to return to afterward.

What This New Hotel Means for the Vibe

The Holiday Inn Resort Orlando SW Celebration area location sits along Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, which keeps you close to Disney property and the tourism zone.

This area typically offers:

  • Easier rideshare access

  • Proximity to Disney parks

  • More nearby dining options

  • A slightly more relaxed footprint compared to some of the older convention-style host setups

And here’s something important.

Sometimes a venue change actually helps refresh an event. New layout. New energy. New pool setup. Different flow between rooms and event spaces.

The slogan in the graphic says it best: “Just Keep Dancing.”

That feels intentional. It signals resilience. Not retreat.

What I Think 2026 Will Look Like

Now that the event is officially unpaused and a new host hotel is announced, here’s what I realistically expect for 2026.

A Reset Year

This may not be the biggest GayDays ever. It may be the most focused one. When events move venues, they often streamline. That can mean tighter programming, stronger flow, and fewer logistical headaches.

Strong Park Presence

The parks will still be packed with red shirts. That has never depended on a hotel ballroom. Disney days are the anchor.

Rebuilt Hotel Energy

The host hotel is where friendships form. Where solo travelers find their people. Where pool decks turn into mini festivals. With a fresh property, there’s room to reimagine that space.

Gradual Sponsorship Rebuild

If sponsorship shifts were part of the original pause, 2026 becomes a rebuilding year. That doesn’t mean weaker. It means more sustainable.

And sustainability matters more than flash.

What This Means If You’re Planning Now

If you were holding off on booking because of the pause, this is your green light.

Here’s how I’d approach it:

  • Book the official host hotel early if you want full immersion.

  • Lock park reservations as soon as Disney allows.

  • Plan Red Shirt Day like always.

  • Leave space in your schedule for official event announcements as they finalize details.

I would still recommend flexible airfare if possible, just as smart travel practice.

But this is no longer a “wait and see if it happens” situation.

It’s happening.

The Emotional Side of This

GayDays has always been bigger than one organization. It’s a pilgrimage for some people. A reunion for others. A first big queer travel experience for many.

Seeing it pause felt like losing something steady.

Seeing it unpause reminds me that community events evolve. They adapt. They survive venue changes, sponsorship shifts, and logistical storms.

Same weekend.

New home.

Still red shirts.

Still Orlando.

Still us.
